By Car to Trowbridge
FROM THE M4
(a) from Junction 17
Follow A350 passing Chippenham and Melksham (Map
1). At a large roundabout on the outskirts of Melksham, do not turn
right signposted Holt and Broughton Gifford but carry straight on, still
on the A350 through two or three roundabouts and, at a large roundabout
- which is the junction with the A361 - turn right signposted to Trowbridge.
Follow the A361 (coloured red on Map 2) right
into Trowbridge. Just after Fire Station on left, take fourth exit from
large roundabout into street called 'The Halve'. At the next mini-roundabout turn
left into Duke Street and then left into a car-park . From there Zion Chapel is an easy
walk via The Halve, as shown on the above sketch-map, or via Brewery Walk
- which goes from about halfway down Duke Street to an opening by the side of the chapel.
(b) from Junction 18
Follow A46 (Map 1) south to large roundabout
at junction with A4. Go straight on under roundabout and along the Batheaston
By-pass turning right at first roundabout for A363 (Bradford-on-Avon road).
* Before reaching BoA and about a mile after Cumberwell Park Golf
Club (on left) look out for left fork signposted 'Trowbridge B3105'. Follow
this road for a couple of miles - including dog-leg across B3107, a river
bridge in front of Cereal Partners factory and two hump-backed bridges.
Almost immediately after the second of these, turn right at a mini-roundabout
at King's Arms. Go left at next mini-rbt, left at a larger rbt (by Wickes
DIY), right at next mini one and you are then on B3106, which you should
follow for 1 mile to the junction of Timbrell St and Union St (see Map
2); Zion Chapel is then across to your left. (For parking, turn left, then right at the next
mini-roundabout and right again at the next to Duke Street car-park. From there Zion Chapel is an easy
walk via The Halve, as shown on the above sketch-map, or via Brewery Walk
- which goes from about halfway down Duke Street to an opening by the side of the chapel.)
* an alternative is to keep on the A363 right into Bradford
then follow the directions in the next section.
FROM BRADFORD-ON-AVON Take A363 to Trowbridge. About
half-a-mile after Mormon church on right join one-way system (Map
2). # Follow one-way system via Stallard St to Hill St, where
you should stay in right-hand lane to go all the way around edge of car
park; moving across to the left-hand lane - with Sainsburys supermarket
directly on your left - for Church St. Now get into lane to turn left at traffic
lights. Zion is about 50 yards on right. (For parking, fork right at the chapel then turn right at the next
mini-roundabout and right again at the next to Duke Street car-park. From there Zion Chapel is an easy
walk via The Halve, as shown on the above sketch-map, or via Brewery Walk
- which goes from about halfway down Duke Street to an opening by the side of the chapel.)
FROM THE A36 VIA FARLEIGH HUNGERFORD Turn on to A366
for 4 miles to Trowbridge. At end of Wingfield Road, just after RC church
on left, get into right-hand lane to join one-way system (Map
2). (Thereafter follow from # in FROM BRADFORD-ON-AVON above.)
